Dan Lanning had these boys figured out early: they’re fighting for clicks.
I’ve been thinking it for a while, but now I’m certain of it: Deion is only at Colorado to elevate his son Shedeur and get him drafted highly in the 2025 NFL draft, cash in and then dip out.
His goal was to get to a stage big enough that he could promote and showcase his son’s talents and trick some NFL team into blowing a top-5 pick on him.
That’s his only goal. He doesn’t care about winning games, building a program, developing young men and competing for a National Championship.
Well, let me rephrase that: if all or any of those things happen, it will be incidental, because those are not his main goals. That’s not what he’s striving for.
He is a snake oil salesman, pretends to be a preacher kind of guy, “good influence on young men” and all that bullshit, but it’s completely fake.
Xavier Smith, a former Colorado DB who just left via the portal, basically exposed the whole ponzi scheme to the Athletic. He said that Deion told him he should hit the portal, and also that Deion made no attempt to build a relationship with him or develop his players:

Deion does not care about developing his players, other than Shedeur, that is.
And now Shedeur is out here clowning Xavier Smith on social media for having the audacity to question the methods of the Great Coach Prime:

And Deion is chiming in as well.
Here is Deion quote tweeting a picture of the player in question’s stats saying “Lawd Jesus”:

Then this:

That’s who they are. That’s who he is, that’s who his son is.
And of course Deion has time because he doesn’t actually recruit, or really do any of the other things that college football head coaches do. He’s not a football coach, he’s a used car salesman trying to convince you that this 2004 Chevy Cobalt with 190,000 miles on it is the car of your dreams. He’s a carnival barker.
Deion is a great public speaker. He will give these grandiose sermons about “developing young men”, sprinkle in some anecdotes about making his mother proud and providing for her to really hit you in the feels, maybe some references to the Bible as well.
But it’s all a sham. The real Deion Sanders is petty and vindictive and can’t help himself from ridiculing 20 year old kids online, and flexing on Twitter randos.
And the best part about it is, they couldn’t keep their idiot mouths shut, and now Shedeur’s draft stock is going to plummet.
NFL teams will want nothing to do with a player who denigrates and ridicules former players–ESPECIALLY at the quarterback position.
My goodness. The QB is supposed to be above it all, politician answers to everything, never give anybody anything they can use against you, think before you speak, buttoned down.
Shedeur is the opposite of that. What he displayed is the exact opposite temperament of an NFL quarterback.
It’s cooked.
The ponzi scheme is falling apart.
Part of me hopes that Colorado will be able to somehow make a run to the playoffs and just get absolutely clobbered by a real team. And they may have more success this season in the Big 12 because they don’t have to play Oregon, Utah and USC anymore. Well, they are in the same conference as Utah now.
But they’re going to be playing teams more on their level, so it’s conceivable that they do win more games than they did last year.
Part of me wants Coach Prime to go 0-12, but another part of me wants him to actually have a good enough record to where they can play a real heavyweight, and then we can see a game similar to when they played Oregon last year.
