I was bullish on Ohio State’s chances against Michigan until I saw how all over Big Noon Kickoff and College Gameday, they were non-stop with the “Michigan hasn’t won in Columbus since 2000, is this the year they finally get it done???” talk. I don’t believe in jinxes but I do believe in foreshadowing, and… Read More Where Does Ohio State Go From Here?
Thanks to Michigan and Ohio State both escaping this past weekend, we now get to witness the biggest rivalry in college sports with both teams at 11-0. This is the first time since 2006 that both teams have entered “The Game” undefeated. That year, Ohio State was ranked #1 and Michigan was #2, and the… Read More Ohio State vs. Michigan, CXVIII: Who Will Win?
Whoa! This was supposed to be the calm before the storm. Georgia playing pathetic Kentucky, Ohio State playing perpetual Big Ten doormat Maryland, Michigan playing faltering Illinois, TCU playing disappointing Baylor, Tennessee playing a badly inconsistent South Carolina team coming off a 38-6 loss to Florida, This Kentucky team just lost to VANDERBILT last week.… Read More College Football Week 11 Reactions, Hot Takes and CFP Implications
Let’s start first with the tiers. I’ve added a few categories that I think give it some more nuance: I know the Eagles won and improved to 9-1, which is the best record in the league, but I still have some serious concerns about them. They seemed to get their run defense figured out in… Read More NFL Week 11 Tiers, Hot Takes and Takeaways: the Jets Offense is TRASH
Notable action from week 11 Bama is winning games on pure talent alone. Nick Saban, Bill O’Brien and Pete Golding are not outcoaching anyone. Looking just at power five opponents, and excluding Vanderbilt, who has Saban outcoached? With as much of a talent advantage as Bama has, I will define outcoaching someone as winning by… Read More CFB Week 11 Hot Takes, Observations and Flag Plants
Okay, Monday Night Football has just concluded and the Eagles are undefeated no longer. And I’m kicking them out of the top-tier club. Philly did not look good tonight. Their inability to stop the run for most of that game enabled Washington to hold a 40 to 20 minute advantage in time of possession. I… Read More NFL Week 10 Tiers, Hot Takes and Reactions
This is the strangest betting line I’ve seen for this week of college football, maybe all season: LSU, who just beat Alabama, is only a 3.5 point favorite over Arkansas, who just lost to Liberty. Liberty! The game is at Arkansas, so that explains some of it, but this is overall very disrespectful to LSU,… Read More Why is LSU Only -3.5 Over Arkansas?
I know it’s late in the week, I’ve been busy. I haven’t even been able to do my CFP weekly power ratings and betting lines this week. I hope to have something done there by tomorrow morning but my spreadsheet is not cooperating with me at the moment so no promises. Anyway, here’s the week… Read More NFL Week 9 Tier List and Takes
They’ve lost two games this year, by a total of four combined points, and both games were lost on the last play of the game. They were in the National Championship game 10 months ago, and probably would’ve won had Jameson Williams not torn his ACL in the first half. They won a National Championship… Read More Alabama Football is on Fumes Right Now. Is This Saban’s Last Ride?
I’ve been thinking about it, and I’m willing to cut Ryan Day some slack for one major reason: He’s only in his 4th season as a head coach. He’s only 43 years old. Even Kirby Smart is only 46 (turning 47 next month), but he’s been a head coach since 2016. He’s got an additional… Read More I’ve Been too Harsh on Ohio State and Ryan Day
